Why Support the reCREATE Program?

There is no doubt that there is need for the reCREATE program.

·       78% of all disposal in Roseville in 2004 was business waste.  14.8 pounds of waste per employee, per day were produced, generating 103,873 tons of waste for disposal.[1]

·       Between two and five percent of the waste stream is potentially reusable according to local studies in Berkeley, California, and Leverett, Massachusetts.[2]

·       The EPA has ranked the most environmentally sound strategies for Municipal Solid Waste. They include source reduction (including reuse) as the most preferred method, followed by recycling and composting, and, lastly, disposal in combustion facilities and landfills.[3]

ReCREATE makes art affordable and accessible for children, families and schools of Roseville.

This program will serve many areas of our community:

  • Children and families by providing a better understanding of local environmental issues while encouraging art and creative expression. If each child reduced their waste consumption by just a half pound a week, resulting in a waste reduction of almost 50 tons of waste.
  • Students of area school districts and community organizations by offering affordable art materials, classroom programs in keeping with State Standards for Science and Arts education Pre-K through Grade Eight.
  • Local businesses (large and small) by diverting usable items from their waste stream, facilitating donation of said materials to be utilized in school and community art education, creative expression and environmental learning.

By supporting the program, your business can help reCREATE encourage students (and their families and teachers) to be creative, and to rethink the role of reuse and trash in their everyday lives.
